The Top 7 Health Benefits of Cycling

7 Health Benefits of Cycling
1. Cycling is good for your heart:
Cycling is associated with improved cardiovascular fitness, as well as a decrease in the risk of coronary heart disease.

2. Cycling is good for your muscles:
Riding a bike is great for toning and building your muscles, especially in the lower half of the body – your calves, your thighs, and your rear end. It’s also a great low-impact mode of exercise for those with joint conditions or injuries to the legs or hips, which might keep them from being active.

3. Cycling is good for your waistline:
You can burn a lot of calories while biking, especially when you cycle faster than a leisurely pace, and cycling has been associated with helping to keep weight gain down. And cycling has the added benefit of ramping up your metabolism, even after the ride is over.

4. Cycling is good for your lifespan:
Bicycling is a great way to increase your longevity, as cycling regularly has been associated with increased ‘life-years’, even when adjusted for risks of injury through cycling.

5. Cycling is good for your coordination:
Moving both feet around in circles while steering with both your hands and your body’s own weight is good practice for your coordination skills.

6. Cycling is good for your mental health:
Riding a bike has been linked to improved mental health.

7. Cycling is good for your immune system:
Cycling can strengthen your immune system, and could protect against certain kinds of cancers.

Even with all of these health benefits to cycling, some of us may ride them just for fun. I know I do. Why do you ride a bike? Let us know in the comments below

Mumbaikars witnessed a rare sight as Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan hit the roads with his daughter Suhana on a bicycle on Tuesday.
Shah Rukh, who was shooting at Mehboob Studio in Bandra, rode from there to his house Mannat with Suhana.
Not only did Shah Rukh ensure his bodyguards got a workout, but also his fans who wanted to catch a glimpse of the Badshah of Bollywood.

Why We Ride Cycle?

“I like riding a fast as I can and I love the fact that a group of cyclists can ride faster and farther than one alone.”

“I just like it. It’s a good workout, plus it’s relaxing. It’s low impact, and the time just zips by, whether you’re listening to something good on the iPod or seeing some great things in nature as you ride by.”

“Reminds me of when I was a kid.”

“Great exercise ! I commute a couple days in a week and I love not paying 4.00 a gallon.”

“Love to ride, since I live within 2 miles of where I work – I ride every chance I get!!”

“Riding is absolutely wonderful. I think we all need to go outside and get some fresh air every now an then. I also see a lot of nature and wildlife on the bike trails. I speak to a lot of people walking, running and riding during my trips. It’s just a great experience.”

“When I was a teenager my church took annual multi-day bike trips. I went, and even though I had trouble finishing a couple of the trips because of health issues/injuries, I thoroughly enjoyed them. As an adult I’ve continued to ride as often as I can. Great way to stay fit and clear my mind.”

“Riding is fun. It’s great exercise, gets me outside and I get to see all kinds of great scenery. Plus, there’s a huge sense of accomplishment that comes when you summit some massive hill.”

“I bike for several reasons. First, I absolutely LOVE the feeling of just propelling myself thru the air. Second, it’s an amazing connection I have with my Dad who is now retired. We have ridden bikes together as long as I can remember and I am so grateful that he’s in great health and can ride with me as often as possible. We have explored so many trails, paths and routes together. It’s always a time for us to catch up with each other and relax while we ride. Third, I swear there is a zen-like meditation benefit for me. I NEVER feel as good as I do when riding and after. When I have to go for a while without riding I get really antsy and it’s all I can do to not think about and plan my next ride. Walking is great but kinda too slow for me and I’m not a runner. Biking is absolutely perfect for me because I feel so capable of going as far or as fast or as slow as I want. it’s just the right speed. I LOVE Biking!!”

“Love the feeling it brings, the wind blowing by, the scenery, the exercise, and most of all the freedom.”

Cycling is a very efficient and effective mode of transportation optimal for short to moderate distances. Bicycles provide numerous benefits compared to motor vehicles, including exercise, an alternative to the use of fossil fuels, no air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion, easier parking, greater maneuverability, and access to both roads and paths. The advantages are at less financial cost to the user as well as society (negligible damage to roads, and less pavement required). Criticisms and disadvantages of cycling include reduced protection in crashes, particularly with motor vehicles, longer travel time (except in densely populated areas), vulnerability to weather conditions, difficulty in transporting passengers, and the skill and fitness required.
